Optical Bonding VS Air-gap Bonding of LCD Display

2025-06-12

As we all know, there is a lamination technology called optical bonding in LCD display field. So what is optical bonding technology? And what are its advantages and disadvantages, today let's take a detailed look at the optical bonding technology of LCD screens.

As a display device, it is common for LCD to add covering materials on it, we call them cover lens, and cover lens can be glass, PMMC, PET, etc. It can be attached to the display through double-sided tape, or through OCA, OCR, etc., which we call optical bonding. The optical bonding technology is to use OCA optical adhesive or OCR for lamination, so that the display panel and the cover glass are bonded into a whole. It can also be the bonding between the display panel and the CTP capacitor module. OCA optical adhesive is a colorless and transparent adhesive with good optical properties, which can make the liquid crystal panel and the glass cover plate have a certain physical compatibility.

Benefits of LCD optical bonding technology:

Reduces Reflection

Improve optical performance. Optical bonding, because the middle is a transparent dielectric layer, i.e., optical glue, there is no air layer, while OCA optical adhesive can prevent multiple reflections of light on different media. Therefore, the optical bonding technology of the LCD screen can reduce the diffuse reflection of light, effectively improve the optical performance of the LCD screen, and greatly improve the strong light visibility and sunlight visibility of the display screen.

Improve the anti-vibration cushioning

The OCA optical adhesive acts as a cushion between the cover glass and the LCD panel. The anti-vibration technology of the LCD display is mainly considered in terms of stiffness and damping. Due to the stiffness of the tempered glass itself, it can resist most of the impact energy of external forces, and through the buffering of the OCA layer, it can reduce the stress transmitted by the system to the LCD screen, and achieve the effect of anti-vibration buffering.

Increase Durability

The optical bonding technology of the LCD screen can also prevent dust and water vapor from entering the LCD panel, this resolve the problem of condensation can cause screens to become foggy from moisture that penetrates the air gap.

LCD display

Increase Sensitivity

Optical bonding provides accurate touch experience and make it easy for users to operate.

Optical bonding does increase a lot in cost compared to air bonding, and it is difficult to repair. However, the improvement of optical performance, more resistant to shock and vibration allow the optical bonding is favored by the market, if you need display products with optical binding, please contact us.
