Why G+G Matters More Than the Spec Line Suggests

The drawing specifies G+G construction: a glass cover lens bonded to a glass touch sensor, as opposed to G+F, where the sensor is a film. This is not a cosmetic distinction, and it shows up in four places.

• Hardness you can specify. The surface is rated 6H pencil hardness. Film-based stacks deform under the same load, which is why they feel soft and wear visibly at the most-touched points.
• Light gets through. At least 85% transmittance means the cover and sensor cost you only a little of the panel's 850 cd/m². Every point of transmittance you give up has to be bought back with backlight power and heat — a real cost in a sealed enclosure.
• It survives the environment. Glass does not yellow under UV, does not creep at high temperature, and does not delaminate when a sealed enclosure cycles between -30°C and +85°C. For outdoor equipment this is usually the deciding factor.
• Touch behaves consistently. A rigid glass sensor holds its geometry, so the controller's calibration stays valid across temperature. Film stacks move, and calibration drifts with them.

1000 cd/m², and Where That Lets You Mount It

At 1000 cd/m² typical, this is among the brightest modules in our range, and paired with the -30°C to +85°C rating it changes what installations are realistic.

The usual failure is not that a panel is too dim in absolute terms; it is that bright ambient light washes out the image. Under a kiosk window facing the sun, or in a cab with the sun behind the operator, a 300–400 cd/m² panel simply disappears. The 80/80/80/80 viewing angle means the image also holds up when the operator is not standing dead centre — leaning over a console or reading from the side.

Combined with the sealed G+G front, that opens up: EV charging piles at the kerb, outdoor kiosks and ticketing machines, agricultural and construction cab terminals, marine instrumentation, forklift and logistics terminals, and industrial HMIs near windows or skylights. In each case the alternative is a shade hood, a higher-power backlight and a fan — all of which cost more than starting with a brighter panel.

Note: -30°C to +85°C is the operating rating given on the drawing. As with all LCDs, response slows at low temperature and background colour shifts slightly with ambient temperature; both are reversible.
