4.3 Inch 480x272 RGB888 TFT LCD Module 50000-Hour Backlight - VXT430MPSA-16

The VXT430MPSA-16 is a 4.3-inch TFT LCD module with 480x272 resolution and a true 24-bit RGB888 interface, built around a backlight rated for 50,000 hours — the longest in our range and roughly two and a half times the 20,000-hour life of our high-brightness 4.3-inch module. Sixteen LEDs share the load across eight series pairs, which is why it lasts. It ships without touch, so you fit your own or none at all. Rated -30 to +80°C for panel and control equipment that runs continuously.

Product Description

50,000 Hours, and What That Number Actually Means

The 50,000-hour figure is defined as brightness decreasing to 50% of the initial value at 25°C. It is not "it works for 5.7 years and then fails." It means after 5.7 years of continuous operation, the screen is half as bright as the day it was fitted.

That has a direct consequence for how you specify the product. If your design needs a minimum of 250 cd/m² at end of life, and the backlight is at 50% by then, you need a panel that starts at at least 500 cd/m². Specifying to the initial figure is the most common way a display ends up looking tired two years into a five-year product — the panel is fine, it was just never bright enough to begin with.

So the practical guidance: decide your end-of-life brightness first, then double it to find the initial specification you need. And for equipment that genuinely runs 24/7 — control rooms, kiosks, vending, process panels — that end-of-life number, not the initial one, is the specification that matters.

The Trade: 24 V Needs a Bigger Boost

Being straight about the cost of that longevity, because it is a real design item.

At 24 V typical, this backlight needs the largest step-up of any 4.3-inch module we make. From a 3.3 V rail that is roughly a sevenfold boost; from 5 V, about fivefold. Two consequences:

  • Choose the boost converter carefully. Higher step-up ratios mean lower efficiency and more sensitivity to layout. Check the converter's maximum output voltage with margin — a part specified to 24 V with no headroom is not a good choice, since Vf varies with lot and temperature.
  • Budget about 0.96 W at 40 mA. Confirm with us whether that 40 mA is total or per string; if per string the figure doubles, and your thermal design changes.

None of this is difficult, but it is worth knowing before schematic capture rather than after. If your existing product already has an 18 V or 15 V backlight rail and you cannot change it, tell us — we will point you at the module that fits rather than have you add a second boost stage.

Rated -30°C to +80°C, With One Figure to Check

Operating range is -30°C to +80°C, which comfortably covers sealed enclosures, unheated installations and outdoor equipment in most climates.

One number needs confirming. Storage is listed as -30°C to +80°C — identical to the operating range. Storage is normally wider at both ends, because an unpowered part tolerates more than a running one. Identical ranges usually mean the figure was carried across rather than measured. This is the third datasheet in our range where we have seen it, and we flag it rather than quietly repeat it. The operating rating stands on its own; ask us to confirm the storage figure before you plan shipping or warehousing around it.

Also noted honestly in the environmental section: response time slows at low temperature, and background colour shifts slightly with ambient temperature in a reversible way. Both are normal for LCD and neither is a defect, but if your product is used outdoors at -30°C, expect slower animation and accept it in the design rather than being surprised by it.
